Today contractor’s started installing spray-in-place Nu-Wool cellulose wall insulation in the Energy Star home we’re building at work. Dense packed cellulose wall insulation is one of the best ways to insulate your walls. If you’re interested in learning more about this great insulation product then I suggest you check out the post I wrote today on my other site; Installing Cellulose Spray-In-Place Insulation. Cellulose insulation is a green building project because it uses 100% recycled newspaper as the cellulose component.

@ Amy – I think you can get cellulose batts as well. You can also get batts that are made from recycled blue jeans.

Todd,
Thanks I’ll look for one of those options then!

Amy,
We do have a true Cellulose Batt product. However, it is 3-1/2″ thick and the R-Value is 13. If you have enough room you can add layers to achieve a higher R-Value.

Todd,
A form of shredded newspapers sounds like a great green alternative to traditional insulation! I’m planning on insulating part of my house in the next month, but the area I need to insulate has a drop ceiling, and wouldn’t work well with this type of product. Do you know of anything “green” that might work with a drop ceiling?
