Todd, I have to agree with Linda. Not all particleboard products are environmentally equal. California Closet, Stor-X, Terra Cabinets (in NJ) and now Solid Wood uses eco-friendly glues for their green closet systems. (Note, you have to ask for the green version of CC's closet systems.) I wrote an article about 2 yrs ago about some of these closet systems on my website. I have in my own home Stor-X's systems when they were using wheatboard.

A carpenter can also make closet systems out of Columbia Forest plywood too which does not contain any added formaldehyde or Sierra Pine's Medite 2 MDF both with no added formaldehyde.

To the best of my knowledge, Easy Closets contains urea-formaldehyde. I would personally opt for a closet system that does not contain any urea-formaldehyde. That's just my two cents.

@ Linda - It appears to me that EasyClosets is working very hard to meet current and future standards for their particle board.

"We are proud that the closet organizers we currently produce and ship to the entire country meet future high standards set in California for formaldehyde emissions and air quality. One of our highest priorities at EasyClosets is to stay aware and ahead of all relevant regulatory policies that impact our products."

That's directly from their site.

Ok, particle board is made up of discarded construction materials, wood chips, etc. The only problem with the particle board are the resins that may be used to glue them together. If the glues that are used are not poisonous to you or I then it is a super product!
