Core Aeration
Depending on where you live it may not be too late to aerate your lawn. Core aeration is one of the best ways to create a thicker, healthier, greener lawn and it doesn’t require chemicals or pesticides. I’ve been using core aeration on my lawn the last three years and it’s made an amazing difference in how thick the lawn has grown.
Lawn Core aeration is a method of removing small plugs of soil and grass from the lawn. Plug aerators are typically very simple machines that plunge spoon like tubes into the lawn and remove a plug 1 inch in diameter by 2 or 3 inches in length.
Lawn core areation benefits the lawn by:
- Improved porosity of the soil allowing better penetration of water and oxygen which promotes deeper root growth.
- Improved soil microorganisms that decompose thatch.
- Prevents runoff of fertilizers and pesticides.
The best time to perform lawn aeration is during the fall. By aerating in the fall you give grass a nice jump start in the spring which results in a thicker, healthier and greener lawn the following summer.
